
The Marine industry is one of the first manufacturing industries in China that are fully integrated into the international market. Relying on the strength of good shoreline resources, port conditions and labor resources, China has become an important player in the world shipbuilding industry. In 2004, the capacity of completed ships reached over 8.5 million deadweight tons (DWT), accounting for 14% of the world share; the capacity of new shipbuilding orders exceeded 17.0 million DWT and the total capacity of shipbuilding orders in waiting list reached 37.0 million DWT, accounting for around 17% of the world market share; China steadily ranks No.3 by main indicators in the world for over 10 consecutive years and plays a critical role in the international shipbuilding market. According to industry experts and foreign medias, Chinese shipbuilding enterprises are overtaking Japanese and Korean counterparts in full sail and China will become the largest shipbuilding nation in the world in 2015 because its shipbuilding capacity is expected to exceed 35 million DWT in that year. |
