Open to 199 ports in 70 countries and regions, Nantong Port has opened three international container lines to H ongkong, Japan, and South Korea. The Nantong section of Xi n chang Railway has gone into operation while the opening of Ningqi Railway is imminent and Tonghu Railway has been planned. The Nantong Airport as a 2nd grade state airport provides flights to Beijing, Guan g zhou, and Amoy Xiamen , etc.

         The construction of Sutong Highway Bridge spanning the Yangtze River offic i ally began in Oct., 2002, while the construction of Chongqi and Chonghai bridges linking Nantong's Qidong and Haimen with Shanghai's Chongming Island will get started this year, making Nantong part of Shanghai's so called One-hour Economic Circle in the real sense.
